Themes
The seminar will broadly include the following themes, with gender issues addressed in all the sectors.
Displacement, Resettlement and Rehabilitation in
- Water Resources Sector, entailing multi purpose projects with multiple benefits but poor performance in resettlement and rehabilitation, including undercounting displacement, reliance on cash compensation only, lack of participation of affected people in planning their resettlement and rehabilitation
- Urban Development Projects, basically involving relocation of either dwelling or businesses
- Industrial Projects, including mining and thermal power projects, mostly coming up in rural areas and depriving people of their housing or economic living or both
- Infrastructure Projects, essentially transport, including highways and railways, as a thrust area of the government and likely to continue to be so in the near future
